Classic Expo: Classic Car Exhibition on a straight road to success
Last weekend, Salzburg Exhibition Centre was the first port of call for thousands of classic car enthusiasts at this year’s Classic Expo. The 20. edition of the international classic car fair attracted around 23,000 visitors.
Hermann Schwarz, the Classic Expo founder and a community insider, told us: “Working with a well-coordinated team, the Classic Expo has now given me the chance to realise my greatest passion and life's work for 20 years. 23,000 visitors are solid proof that the topic of classic cars remains immensely popular – and the best possible sign of gratitude.”
What makes Classic Expo so special?
Visitors at the fair appreciate the balanced mix of exhibiting dealers and service providers, the parts market and the range of privately-owned vehicles for sale. Automobile clubs and associations are also integral to the trade fair flair; one such organisation being the Motor Veteranen Club Salzburg, whose president, Gerhard Feichtinger (Dipl.BW), was thrilled with have participated so successfully: “We were absolutely delighted. Visitors numbers exceeded our expectations, and our club acquired several new members.”
Three special showcases
Every year a variety of special displays guarantee highlights. This year Pappas Classic contributed a further attraction with ‘60 Years of Mercedes Benz 600’, while the Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk museum in Anger, southern Bavaria, set up the eye-catching ‘50 Years of the Porsche 911 Turbo’. Piccolo Museo Storico exhibited joined up with the official classic car expert Franz Steinbacher (Komm.Rat) to stage ‘75 Years of Abarth’. As Andreas Jodl explained: “The trade fair went extremely well. We love being able to share the passion for Abarth and its unique racing history with other people. The absolute visitor magnet was a faithful replica of the Servizio Corse racing transporter that took over 1000 hours to assemble.”
Humer & Granner auction house premiere
Once again this year, the Saturday classic car auction at the fair was an eagerly awaited event. Wolfgang Humer and Reinhard Granner put over 100 classic cars up for auction, reporting a 90% sales result. Their highest price, of 402,500 euros, was recorded for an L-series Ferrari Dino 246 GT.
Exhibitor satisfaction
New faces and long-time companions sum up the event positively. Ralf Scheuringer, the owner of Sportwagenhaus.at, has been a regular exhibitor at the Classic Expo since 2012: "Classic Expo is the only trade fair we still exhibit at. It’s a platform we value for in-depth conversations with customers, and the chance to share ideas with fellow dealers. This year, as soon as the event commenced on the very first day we were able to sell two vehicles.”
R&H Automobile GmbH is another long-standing companion: “We've been here since the show was first launched and love coming back every year. Plenty of special vehicles, lots of visitors, and the perfect target audience.” Daniel Höllinger, Managing Director.
Exhibitor Nils Pfeifer, CEO of Carola Daimler Cars, was here for the first time: “This was our first time at the Classic Expo. What we particularly liked was the personal setting, compared to other well-known trade fairs. We met the right audience here, too, so we’re looking forward to coming back next year.”
Next year the fair is celebrating its 20 anniversary, and will be held on the 17 to the 19 October!
