The Italian with Austrian roots

Karl Abarth was born a Scorpio on the 15th November 1908 in Vienna, and subsequently made his sign of the zodiac famous all over the automotive world.

Karl’s apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic and his early participation in motorbike races formed the cornerstone of a magnificent career in motor sports. In 1928 he established his own motorcycle racing team and ultimately switched to sidecar racing. His greatest triumph in this period was the victory against the ‘Orient Express’ on a self-manufactured ride.

Later, in 1949 the company ‘Abarth’ was founded in Bologna. Soon after, he took over the Cisitalia company, previously owned by the industrialist, Piero Dusio, and developed it into ‘Squadra Carlo Abarth’. 

Alongside the racing team, which produced a number of excellent drivers, and the development of a range of racing and sports accessories, Abarth was also extremely successful in the construction of sports and racing cars. Carlo Abarth (previously Karl) achieved countless records and triumphs down the years. 

Carlo Abarth was a marvellous racing driver, an ingenious constructor and an outstanding businessman. He died on the 24th October 1979, under the sign under which he had been born – the scorpion – which still adorns his automobiles to this day.

In addition to various vehicle models, there will also be a photo exhibition.

60 Years of the Mercedes Benz 600

The W100 celebrates its 60th birthday in 2024!

The Mercedes-Benz 600 was THE luxury-class vehicle from Daimler-Benz in the 1960s and 1970s. The 600 was built in various body styles such as the saloon, the Pullman saloon and the Landaulet.

Development work on the W100 began in the mid-1950s. The aim was to build a vehicle at the cutting edge of what was feasible. Air suspension, automatic transmission and power steering and brakes were therefore standard features.

A total of 2,677 W100s were built between 1964 and 1981. Of these, 429 were Pullmans and only 59 Landaulets.

The designation of the model series was also extended to the engine in the 600. The W100 has the M100 with 6.3 litre capacity and 184 kW or 250 hp. Hydraulics played a key role in the comfort of the W100. The so-called comfort hydraulics were used to adjust the front or rear seats, lower or raise the windows or even open or close the sunroof. The great advantage of the hydraulic drive compared to electric actuators is the almost silent operation.

The equipment options included various types of wood in the interior, velour or leather for the seats, a cooling compartment or even a car telephone - as installed in this vehicle.

Daimler-Benz registered 15 different patents with the W100. The Pappas CLASSIC service team always keeps this 600 ready for use.
